$100 Oil: Middle East Tensions Spark Price Surge
Oil prices surged past $100 per barrel on September 9 as tensions in the Middle East escalated and supply fears mounted.
The jump marked the first time since July that global crude benchmarks had reached triple digits, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude quoted at $93.88 per barrel and Brent crude trading at $98.54.
The upward move was linked to recent military actions, including a statement by U.S. Central Command that American forces destroyed five Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps oil tankers.
Analysts warn that continued escalation could push oil prices even higher as the supply crunch is evident in falling inventories and restricted Iranian crude exports.
