$100 Oil Prices and Conflict Drive Soaring Gas Costs in Washington
Washington drivers are facing a long and expensive summer at the pump due to soaring gas prices. The conflict between the U.S. and Iran is one of the major factors contributing to the escalating costs, with oil prices breaching the $100 mark again.
Spike O'Neill, co-host of 'The Jake and Spike Show' on KIRO Newsradio, explained that the Houthi rebels' attack on Saudi tankers has forced the loss of two major shipping avenues for 20% of the world's oil production and transportation. This has led to a 16% rise in crude oil prices in just one week.
In Washington state, drivers are already paying nearly $1 more than the national average, with King County residents paying an average of $5.38 per gallon, almost $1.40 more than the national average according to AAA. This has led to concerns about a 'hot, expensive summer at the pump' in Seattle.
