$14.3M Kansas Surcharge Sought by ONE Gas for Pipeline Modernization
ONE Gas, a leading natural gas distributor in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, has submitted an application to the Kansas Corporation Commission seeking a $14.3 million surcharge through its Gas System Reliability Surcharge (GSRS) mechanism. The proposed increase will support expanded infrastructure investments, including pipeline modernization, safety upgrades, and network expansion.
The filing was made in July 2026 and is expected to become effective in October 2026, subject to regulatory approval. According to ONE Gas' quarterly update, the surcharge would allow the utility to recover costs associated with qualifying infrastructure projects outside of a traditional general rate case.
The company has identified infrastructure modernization as a key component of its long-term growth strategy while maintaining reliable and affordable natural gas service for customers across Kansas. The proposed GSRS adjustment would provide additional financial support for ongoing infrastructure upgrades, reinforcing ONE Gas' broader strategy of modernizing its regulated natural gas distribution network through timely cost recovery mechanisms.
