$1.46B Error in B.C. Gas Revenue Forecasts Exposed

The British Columbia government has confirmed that errors in gas revenue forecasts have overstated natural gas revenues by about $1.46 billion over five fiscal years.

According to Energy Minister Adrian Dix, the most significant error was a 44-cent overstatement in the forecasted per-gigajoule price of natural gas this fiscal year, which he described as a 'serious mistake'.

The errors were caused by botched currency conversions and incorrect assumptions about the units used in forecasting.

Dix stated that while the errors affect the province's forecasting, they do not impact actual revenues, which can fluctuate due to price changes like those following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
