The British Columbia government is dealing with a $1.5 billion natural gas royalty accounting error, which it blames on a spreadsheet mistake related to currency conversion.

Premier David Eby expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation, saying 'I'm not pleased by this situation.'

Energy and Climate Solutions Minister Adrian Dix explained that the error occurred when Canadian dollars were mistakenly converted into American dollars, leading to an overstatement of revenue.

The correction will result in approximately $300 million being shaved off provincial revenues for four years, totaling around $1.462 billion.
