$17,000 Gold: Pierre Lassonde Forecasts Bull Market to Continue
Pierre Lassonde, chairman emeritus of Franco Nevada and managing director and principal of Firelight Investments, believes gold's current bull market is just the beginning of a larger advance in the next three years. He points out that the circumstances of today's gold bull market mirror those of the 1970s, with energy prices driving inflation.
Lassonde forecasts gold could reach $17,000 an ounce over the next three years, citing rising concerns over soaring U.S. debt and a surge in central bank gold buying. He notes that unlike past periods, today's U.S. federal debt is nearly $40 trillion, limiting government ability to respond to economic shocks.
Lassonde also highlights the growing geopolitical uncertainty facing mining companies, which must diversify with multiple mines across different jurisdictions to remain successful. In contrast to the past, mining companies are showing financial discipline, opting for dividends and buybacks instead of diluting shares or overspending.
