$22.10 Weaner Pig Breakeven Price Drops Amid Industry Shifts
NutriQuest Business Solutions has released its latest weaner pig profitability calculations. The current breakeven price for weaners is $22.10 per head, down $4.58 from last week's figure. This means that if a farmer purchases weaners at this price, they will break even when selling them in January 2027 using February 2027 futures prices.
The calculations take into account industry representative production costs and futures pricing for lean hogs, corn, and soybean meal. Feed costs were down $0.55 per head this week, while February futures decreased by $1.58 compared to last week's futures. Historical basis also declined by $0.87 per cwt.
The maximum price a buyer could pay for weaner pigs without incurring fixed costs is the margin over variable costs, which stands at $48.21. However, many buyers have empty space and will incur these fixed costs regardless of whether the buildings are stocked with weaners.
