An Emirati agriculture company has begun delivering wheat to Egypt under a $500m five-year agreement. The deal, signed in August 2023, aims to strengthen Egypt's food supply chain and provide a buffer against global market shocks.

The pact between Abu Dhabi-based Al Dahra Holding and the General Authority for Supply Commodities will be supported by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office, an export-financing arm of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization predicts that Egypt's wheat production will reach 10 million tonnes in 2026, a 7% year-on-year increase.

The Emirati company has been active in Egypt since 2007 and has over 40 international markets. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading signed a memorandum of understanding with Noatum Ports in December to enhance agricultural supply chains and strengthen food security in Egypt.
