70 Ships Stuck in Danube Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Ukraine's grain exports face significant delays due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Around 70 vessels are stuck near the Danube's Sulina Canal, waiting for access to Ukrainian ports to load grain for export. The delays are caused by a shortage of pilots and priority given to other types of cargo, as well as air-raid alerts that force port operations to temporarily stop.

According to traders and analysts, each day of blocking costs ship operators around $8,000, which could aggravate the issue of grain shortages and raise global grain prices. Ukraine's reduced shipments are putting pressure on global grain markets, making it a pressing concern for countries that rely heavily on imported grain.
