$70 Silver Price Target Faces Uncertain Fate as Dollar and Yields Weigh In

The price of silver has struggled to break through the $70 barrier after being rejected at that level, but there are signs of life in the market. The dollar's strength, driven by hawkish comments from Kevin Warsh and higher Treasury yields, is making it difficult for precious metals to attract momentum buyers.

However, fund flows into physically backed silver ETFs have been increasing, with investors adding 20.4 million ounces between July 14 and late August, lifting total holdings back to around 801.2 million ounces. This shift in investor sentiment is significant because ETF buying tends to reflect longer-term positioning.

The technical outlook for silver suggests that the market has reached a point where two different stories are pulling in opposite directions. If yields stop climbing, ETF demand has already shown there are buyers waiting underneath. On the other hand, if the bond market continues to tighten financial conditions, the battle around $70 may last longer than expected.

The recovery of silver's price from 54.50 has changed the shape of the chart, carrying price back to the 71.70 area where selling had repeatedly taken control before. This rejection matters because it arrived after what looks like a complete five-wave advance, making the latest pullback look more like a market taking profits than one losing its bigger direction.
