Abu Dhabi Firm Tackles UK Energy Crisis with Hydrogen Gas Solution
A clean-energy technology company from Abu Dhabi is working on a solution to the UK's energy crisis using hydrogen gas produced on demand. The company, Kinetic7 Technologies, claims that its proprietary technology can help strengthen energy security in Europe and the UK by reducing reliance on stored or transported fuel.
The UK's gas storage levels have fallen to historically low levels for late July, raising concerns about the region's ability to enter winter with adequate reserves. In response, Kinetic7 Technologies has developed a commercial unit called HODBox (Hydrogen On Demand Box) that can be used by restaurants and large-scale catering operations to provide clean gas for cooking.
The technology produces hydrogen on demand at the point of use, using water and electrolysis, and requires only a small amount of electricity. Kinetic7 says this makes it an attractive proposition for hospitality and catering businesses hit by rising energy costs, with the potential to deliver hydrogen at a fraction of the cost of current natural gas supplies.
The company is also working on a prototype for the residential market, targeting off-grid households first. This would be achieved through attaching a unit called HODBox to the side of a property and connecting it to solar panels or the mains supply.
