Adani Told to Deliver Piped Gas to Udupi by Early November
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Member of Parliament Kota Srinivas Poojary has instructed Adani Gas Limited (AGL) to begin supplying Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to houses in Udupi city from the first week of November. The decision came after a review meeting on August 27, where Mr. Poojary expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in completing the Udupi City Gas Distribution (CGD) project. Adani Gas Limited had bagged the project in 2018 to develop a CGD network supplying PNG to industrial, commercial, and domestic sectors in Udupi district.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) had allocated the project for completion within eight years, with plans to provide PNG connections to 1,10,099 households and opening 11 CNG retail outlets. However, company officials informed Mr. Poojary that work on laying the pipeline was temporarily halted during the monsoon season as directed by the Udupi City Municipality.
Despite this setback, about 200 kilometers of the planned 300-kilometer network is ready for use. The project aims to supply PNG to approximately 2,000 households in the first phase. Mr. Poojary instructed company authorities to resume work by October and initiate gas supply in November.
