ADNOC Keeps LNG Exports Running Amid Strait of Hormuz Disruptions

Despite ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC) has continued to load liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers at its Das Island facility in the Persian Gulf.

Satellite imagery from September 2 shows a vessel docked at the export terminal, with at least one other tanker visible nearby.

However, ship-tracking data reveals that vessels have been disabling their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders to avoid detection while moving through the strait.

This 'dark transit' method allows tankers to travel undetected through the Strait of Hormuz, but reduces maritime safety oversight and raises concerns about energy supply disruptions.
