ADNOC Keeps LNG Flowing Amid Hormuz Tensions
Despite escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Emirati energy major ADNOC is continuing to load liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Das Island export terminal. According to satellite imaging data cited by Bloomberg, one tanker was docked at the terminal on September 2, with another nearby.
ADNOC has employed a tactic used by oil tankers and others in the region: switching off transponders to avoid detection. This strategy has allowed ADNOC to successfully export LNG from the Persian Gulf, but it's not without risks. The UAE has been using rare ship-to-ship transfers outside the Strait of Hormuz to secure LNG shipments.
The Emirati energy major is also accelerating plans for a pipeline that bypasses the chokepoint, with a new pipeline under construction to Fujairah. This will double the capacity of the existing export conduit by next year. ADNOC has warned that the impact of the war on energy supply could stretch into 2027.
