Adong Kechil West Oil Production Hits Milestone as PETROS and Petra Energy Target Miri Gas Supply
The Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and Petra Energy Berhad have successfully dispatched their first oil tanker from the Adong Kechil West (AKW) field in Block SK433, marking a significant milestone for Sarawak's onshore oil and gas industry. The AKW Early Production System (EPS) is adopting a phased development strategy that enables early production while providing critical reservoir and operational data to support future field development.
The field is expected to achieve production of up to approximately 800 barrels of oil per day, with the next phase focusing on delivering production facilities and essential infrastructure to support sustained gas supply for the Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant project. This project is targeted for commissioning by the end of 2027.
PETROS senior vice president for Sarawak Resource Management, Dato Abang Arabi Abang Narudin, highlighted the strength of the partnership that enabled this successful delivery, saying 'We are not just celebrating a successful project milestone, but the strength of the partnership that made it happen.'
