AECO Prices Struggle as Winter Demand Looms
Western Canadian natural gas prices have been lagging behind expectations this summer. The prospect of a warmer-than-usual North American winter could further dampen demand and push prices even lower. AECO spot prices, which are crucial for Western Canada, have rebounded somewhat from their summer lows but still remain below average.
Henry Hub, the benchmark price in the US, is maintaining a premium over AECO due to strong demand in the eastern United States. However, this trend may not last if El Niño conditions develop and lead to increased heating demands, which could boost prices across North America.
