Afentra Overtakes Sonangol in Angola's Exploration Dash
Afentra's recent exploration drilling results in Angola have outperformed those of state-owned Sonangol Exploração & Produção, according to a report from Africa Oil+Gas Report. While both companies are racing against each other to explore and extract hydrocarbons in the country's Lower Congo Basin, Afentra's Pacassa SW well has shown promising results.
Afentra reported that their drilling in Block 3/05 offshore in Angola resulted in a successful oil discovery with net pay of 136 meters. The reservoir quality supports estimates of 5,000 Barrels of Oil Per Day (BOPD) gross production. In contrast, Sonangol's appraisal well in the Benguela Basin reported production of 41 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMscf/d) of gas and 1,160 barrels per day of condensate.
One key difference between the two wells is that Afentra's Pacassa SW will be connected to existing production infrastructure, allowing for quicker monetization. Sonangol's Katambi-2 well, on the other hand, is located in a more remote area with no nearby facilities, which may hinder its development.
