African Commodity Index Surges on Higher Energy Prices
The Afreximbank African Commodity Index (AACI) saw a 6.7% increase in the first half of this year, thanks to higher energy prices that have boosted export earnings for oil-producing countries like Nigeria.
According to the July edition of the AACI report, the composite index rose from 195.5 at the end of December 2025 to 208.6 by the end of June 2026.
The energy sub-index saw the strongest growth, rising 13.6% from 168.7 to 191.6 during this period, driven largely by heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and concerns over possible disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
