Ai executives are calling for a slowdown in developing more powerful AI systems. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, published an essay arguing that the pace of model development should be slowed down to allow researchers to understand and control it better. Hours later, OpenAI's Sam Altman endorsed this idea and stated his company would implement one of Amodei's proposed safeguards.
The decision comes as a response to growing concerns over AI's potential risks and the need for more regulation in the industry. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei wrote that advances in AI are outpacing researchers' ability to understand them, and this needs to be addressed through deliberate slowing of model development.
In other news, a key oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia was shut down after being hit by drones launched from Iraq. The 745-mile pipeline is critical for bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, which carried about 20% of the world's oil before the US and Israel went to war with Iran.
