Alaska Lawmakers Sink Dunleavy's $54.5B LNG Pipeline Project
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy's proposed $54.5 billion liquefied natural gas pipeline project has hit a roadblock after lawmakers in both the House and Senate announced they didn't have enough votes to pass the compromise tax bill.
The bill, known as HB 4001, was unveiled by Dunleavy on Wednesday as part of his latest tax strategy for the long-discussed Alaska LNG project. The proposal includes a gas treatment facility on Alaska's North Slope, an 807-mile pipeline, and a natural gas export facility in Nikiski.
The three special sessions held by the state legislature over the past few months focused solely on this bill, but it appears that lawmakers were unable to reach a consensus. The lack of support means that the project's development is now uncertain.
