Albania Partners with Argent LNG on $1 Billion Regional Energy Security Project
Argent LNG and the Government of Albania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop an onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and regasification terminal in Albania. The terminal, with a capacity of up to 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), will primarily serve as a regional energy-security asset for the Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe.
The proposed infrastructure is intended to strengthen security of supply across the region by providing flexible LNG storage, regasification, and supply capabilities. It will be interconnected with existing and planned gas infrastructure in Albania, including the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP), and Fier, Vlorë corridor.
The terminal is expected to contribute to the energy security of Ukraine by enabling U.S.-sourced LNG to support Ukrainian energy needs through reverse-flow, swap, and other regional gas-market arrangements. The project aligns with Albania's role in the Three Seas Initiative, a regional architecture designed to strengthen European and Ukrainian energy resilience.
Argent LNG will work closely with the Government of Albania and relevant stakeholders to advance feasibility studies, technical interconnection planning, and financing for the terminal. The development timeline is aligned with Argent LNG's target of first cargo from Port Fourchon in 2030.
