Albania has signed a memorandum of understanding with Argent LNG, an American liquefied natural gas company, to evaluate the construction of an onshore terminal for storing and regasifying up to 5 million tons of LNG per year.

The facility could be connected to existing pipelines in the region, including the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline, and the Fier-Vlora gas corridor. The project aims to serve not only Albania but also countries in the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe.

According to Argent LNG, the terminal could also create opportunities for supplying Ukraine through regional gas market agreements. Project financing may involve American institutions such as the US Trade and Development Agency, the US International Development Finance Corporation, and the US Export-Import Bank.
