Alberta and Canada Unite to Boost Oil Production and Carbon Capture
A landmark agreement has been reached between Alberta's government, the Government of Canada, and the Oil Sands Alliance to boost oil production while advancing the Pathways carbon capture and storage project.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) will enable the Oil Sands Alliance to increase its oil production necessary to fill the new West Coast oil pipeline, while also building Pathways, the world's largest Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project.
Total crude oil and equivalent production in Alberta has increased from 4.1 million barrels per day in October 2022 to a record 4.8 million barrels per day in December 2025.
The agreement will unlock more investment, job creation, and production in Alberta's energy sector by working with industry to implement financial incentives that will attract tens of billions in new investment for oil and gas production growth.
