Alberta Lobby Firms Get Paid by Both Climate-Stricken Municipalities and Fossil Fuel Clients
Local governments in Alberta are turning to lobbying firms to help them deal with climate mitigation issues, but some of these firms also represent major fossil fuel companies.
According to a report from F Minus, more than a dozen local authorities registered to lobby the government for assistance with climate-related problems hired lobbying firms that also represent oil and gas giants like Enbridge and Tourmaline.
The firms in question, including Alberta Counsel, are getting paid by both the municipalities struggling with climate change and the fossil fuel companies they represent.
This 'questionable business model' allows these firms to profit from furthering Canada's dependence on fossil fuels, which in turn exacerbates the very climate issues that local governments are trying to mitigate.
