Alberta MLAs Head to US for Trade Talks

Alberta's MLAs are set to attend a conference with American legislators to discuss trade and cooperation between the two countries. The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) brings together lawmakers from all 50 US states, commonwealths, territories, and the District of Columbia.

The Alberta delegation, led by MLA Glenn van Dijken, will meet with the NCSL's Agriculture Task Force to discuss agricultural trade and rural development. Van Dijken said that Alberta and the US have a long history of cooperation in these areas and aim to continue advocating for open markets, reliable supply chains, and thriving rural communities.

Alberta's exports to the US totaled $152 billion in 2025, accounting for 85.7% of total provincial exports. The top exports included crude oil, petroleum gases, and beef, with energy products making up about $125 billion (82.3%) of Alberta's exports to the US.

Alberta participates in several transboundary organizations with membership open to both US states and Canadian provinces, including the NCSL, Council of State Governments National, CSG Midwest, and the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER).
