Alberta Pipeline Proposal Aims to Ship One Million Barrels Per Day
Alberta's energy landscape is undergoing significant changes with two major announcements made this week. The province's Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled plans for a new oil pipeline proposal, which would run from Bruderheim to the southern coast of British Columbia. The estimated cost of the project ranges between $35.2 billion and $43.7 billion.
The proposed West Coast pipeline, led by the provincial and federal governments in partnership with Pembina Pipeline, aims to ship one million barrels per day of bitumen from Alberta to Roberts Bank in Delta, south of Vancouver. This route avoids the northern B.C. coast, where a federal tanker ban remains in place.
Peter Tertzakian, an energy economist, stated that these announcements demonstrate Alberta's potential as an energy-rich country, particularly when its resources are needed globally. He noted that this is 'a big day' and expects more developments to follow.
