Alberta Premier Announces West-East Pipeline Plans

Premier Danielle Smith of Alberta announced that the government is moving forward with plans to build a west-east oil pipeline, dubbed the Northern Shield Energy Corridor. This project would connect Alberta's energy resources with Canadian refineries and markets in eastern Canada, creating jobs and growing the economy.

The new pipeline would allow for the transportation of 500,000 barrels of oil per day, with potential expansion up to 800,000 barrels per day. This is part of Alberta's goal to double oil production, making Canada stronger by connecting its energy resources with Canadian consumers.

The project has been in the works since last year when Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario signed an agreement to collaborate on building pipelines and trade infrastructure across provincial borders and into global markets. A potential route for the pipeline has now been identified, and the Government of Ontario is commencing work to estimate costs and examine commercial models.
