Alberta Producers Get Boost from ERA's Methane Reduction Deployment Program
As Alberta's oil and gas producers face evolving regulatory requirements for methane reduction, the Methane Reduction Deployment Program (MRDP) offers a crucial opportunity to secure funding and meet future standards. Announced by Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) in November 2025 with an initial $22.4M in funding, followed by an additional $19.4M in June 2026, the program aims to accelerate the deployment of commercially available methane mitigation technologies.
The ERA funding provides up to $2M per company for eligible projects that reduce emissions through the use of approved technologies, such as pneumatic conversions with nitrogen. The program has a few key requirements: applicants must be upstream or midstream oil and gas companies located in Alberta, and projects must take no longer than two years to complete, finishing by March 31, 2029.
Kathairos, a company specializing in nitrogen-based pneumatic conversions, offers its expertise in helping producers design high-impact projects that can be easily managed. With the recent update allowing for the stacking of MRDP funding with emission offsets, Alberta producers now have an even greater incentive to act early and secure funds before they are exhausted.
