Alberta's Economy Could See $200 Billion Boost with New Economic Deal
A new economic deal between Alberta and Canada could boost the province's economy by up to $200 billion over the next decade, according to modeling work by Lennie Kaplan. This would represent a cumulative growth of around 4%.
The modeling assumes an increase in Alberta's oil production to around 7.5 million barrels per day (mb/d) by 2035, which is roughly aligned with the province's roadmap target of 8 mb/d by that year.
Kaplan suggests that pursuing a new economic deal rather than independence would give Canada greater leverage in negotiations over trade agreements, including the renewed CUSMA. This unity would benefit all Canadians and provide a stronger bargaining position for Alberta.
