Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO Hits Peak Production at Brazil's Mero Field
Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO reaches peak production in Brazil's pre-salt region, contributing to Petrobras' results and confirming that major technical challenges have been overcome. The unit, chartered from SBM Offshore, is producing 180,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) at the Mero field in the Santos Basin.
The Mero field is one of Brazil's largest producing fields, averaging approximately 740,000 bpd in the second quarter of 2026. The Alexandre de Gusmão FPSO is connected to five oil production wells and three injection wells, with plans to connect a total of six oil producers and six alternating water or gas injectors.
The unit's peak production marks a significant milestone for Petrobras, confirming that the strategies adopted are proving successful. 'Each unit that reaches the maximum production level envisaged in the project not only contributes to the company's results, but also confirms that major technical challenges have been overcome,' says Renata Baruzzi, Director of Engineering, Technology and Innovation at Petrobras.
The Mero field is implementing a world's largest seismic monitoring project, PRM (Permanent Reservoir Monitoring), which aims to optimize production management and maximize oil recovery from the reservoirs. The unitized Mero field is operated by a consortium led by Petrobras in partnership with Shell Brasil, TotalEnergies, CNPC, CNOOC, and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A.
