The European energy market is facing a complex situation as winter approaches, with lower-than-usual gas inventories and prices surging to their highest level since January 2023.

The Dutch TTF gas price climbed to around 69.90 euros per megawatt-hour amid rising anxieties over liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the Gulf.

Algeria is emerging as a crucial alternative supplier, particularly for European countries bordering the Mediterranean, and Germany is moving to secure long-term contracts for Algerian gas.

The German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that his country wants to negotiate long-term gas contracts with Algeria, stressing that diversifying supply sources has become a necessity and that Algeria represents a reliable source capable of helping meet Germany's needs.
