Alunorte Cuts Alumina Output Amid Gas Supply Disruption
Alunorte has reduced its alumina production to 50% due to natural gas supply constraints affecting operations at the refinery. According to a notification from its gas supplier, Alunorte implemented contingency measures to minimize the impact on production. These include buying gas on the spot market and adjusting alumina output in line with available gas supply.
The company estimates that lower alumina production and higher gas prices could result in a Q3 2026 financial hit of $75 million to $100 million for its Bauxite & Alumina business. Alunorte is working to restore production to full capacity once natural gas availability returns to normal.
