Âmbar Energia Drops R$65M on Biogas Boom
Âmbar Energia is investing R$ 65 million to expand its biogas production, transforming industrial waste into sustainable fuel. The project aims to add over 14 million cubic meters of biomethane per year to the company's energy matrix, replacing around 12 million liters of diesel and avoiding approximately 30 thousand tons of CO₂ annually.
The initiative began in 2021 when Friboi implemented biodigesters in nine meat processing plants to capture methane generated during industrial effluent treatment. The gas is now purified and transformed into biomethane, meeting the specifications of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
The first self-sufficient unit will be Campo Grande II, which already has a structure installed for about three years. With the installation of a second piece of equipment, expected to be operational in August, the expectation is to achieve 100% energy self-sufficiency and still produce surpluses for commercialization.
