Americans Overestimate Gas Price Spike Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict
A new survey suggests that many Americans overestimate how much gas prices have risen. According to the Politico poll, nearly three in five adults believe the cost of gas in their area has increased more than it actually has.
The average price of gas this week was $4, but a quarter of respondents said fuel in their zip code rose by $3 or more, which is not supported by data. The renewed strikes on Iran have driven prices back up, with the international benchmark Brent crude crossing the $100 mark earlier this week.
The ongoing conflict has sparked concerns about a wider regional war and its impacts on energy markets. A separate Politico poll found that support for the Iran war among President Trump's followers is falling, dropping by 13 points in recent weeks.
