Ampol's Refining Margin Surges to $30.93 per Barrel Amid Shipping Disruptions
Australia's largest fuel retailer, Ampol, has seen its refining margin surge to $30.93 per barrel in the second quarter, a significant increase from $8.71 last year.
The jump is attributed to disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which have tightened fuel supply and lifted the price of refined fuels relative to crude oil.
Ampol's Lytton refinery has benefited from these conditions, leading to a substantial increase in refining margins. However, the company has warned that planned maintenance between August and October will cut production by approximately 300 million liters.
