Andean Silver Unveils Restart Plan for Cerro Bayo Project
Andean Silver presented its restart plan for Cerro Bayo in Chile at the Resources Rising Stars Gold Coast Conference on September 10, 2026. The project has gained momentum as silver prices rose sharply over the past year, reaching nearly $70 an ounce from below $40 a year ago.
The company emphasized that Cerro Bayo is a brownfield restart with existing infrastructure in place, including a mill, power station, tailings dam, and permits. The project has a resource of 136 million ounces silver equivalent, including 55 million ounces of silver and 1 million ounces of gold, with drilling ongoing at six rigs and about 4,000 meters per month.
Management is targeting a scoping study early next year, feasibility work in 2027, and a restart in 2028. The company highlighted its shareholder base, including support from Eric Sprott's group, Equinox, Rob Cohen's 1832 Asset Management, and Rick Rule. Andean Silver was added to the index in March.
The project would use a drive-in, drive-out workforce model, employing about 500 people from a local community of 4,500, or around 11% of the population. At full operating stage, the company expects to produce about 11,000 tons of concentrate per year, containing 1.5% silver content and 120-150 grams per ton.
