Angola Strikes Oil and Gas Gold in Katambi-2 Appraisal Well
Angola's state-owned oil firm Sonangol and its partner in an exploration block offshore Angola, ANPG, have made a significant discovery. They successfully drilled an appraisal well that confirmed good reservoir potential for both oil and gas production.
The Katambi-2 appraisal well was drilled about 1.3 kilometers from the Katambi-1 well, which was drilled by BP more than a decade ago. The initial tests at Katambi-2 showed a stabilized production rate of 1,160 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate and 41 million standard cubic feet (MMscfd) of gas in the well.
No presence of water or H2S (hydrogen sulfide) were found in the well, which reinforces the economic viability of developing the discovery. A preliminary assessment of the test results indicated that the well has the potential to produce more than 100 MMscfd.
