APA Beats Q2 Profit Estimates as Higher Crude Prices Offset Production Decline
Oil prices surged in response to the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, pushing benchmark Brent crude prices up 19.2% year-over-year to average at $89.62 a barrel during the second quarter.
Despite a decline in production of nearly 12%, oil and gas producer APA reported higher profits due to increased crude prices. The company's realized price for each barrel of oil produced rose to $98.24 from $65.58 a year ago.
APA's operations are primarily based in the US, followed by Egypt, the North Sea, and Suriname. However, the energy company remains exposed to changes in commodity prices due to geopolitical events.
The company has made significant progress in reducing its debt, paying down $2.3 billion since year-end 2024, resulting in annualized interest savings of more than $155 million. Net debt at the end of the quarter was $3.3 billion.
