Arctic LNG 2 Sets Record for Gas Production Amid Sanctions
Russia's Arctic LNG 2 project has broken records for gas production rates in July and August, thanks to an expanded 'shadow fleet' of tankers. This allows for increased exports, primarily to China.
Natural gas production at the facility owned by PJSC Novatek reached nearly twice as much as in August 2025, exceeding 27 million cubic meters per day in both months. This suggests a rise in liquefied natural gas (LNG) output, given the increased capacity for transport.
The plant's exports have also reached historic monthly highs, with over 500,000 metric tons in July and August. This amounts to approximately 700 million cubic meters per month, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Western sanctions imposed after Russia's invasion of Ukraine have pushed back the goal of tripling LNG production to 2030.
