Argent LNG Secures DOE Approval for LNG Exports from Port Fourchon

Argent LNG, a Metairie-based company, has secured key export approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to ship up to 25 million metric tons annually of liquified natural gas (LNG) from its proposed terminal at Port Fourchon in Lafourche Parish.

The authorization, known as DOE Order 5447, allows Argent to export LNG to countries that have a Free Trade Agreement with the United States. The company expects to begin operations in the first quarter of 2030 and has filed separately to export LNG to non-Free Trade Agreement countries, which remains under review.

Argent Chairman and CEO Jonathan Bass stated that the company aims to provide allied nations with an alternative to Russian gas, saying 'We started this company to give allied nations a real alternative to weaponized Russian gas.'

The LNG terminal will be built on approximately 900 acres at Port Fourchon under a long-term lease agreement with the Greater Lafourche Port Commission. At full capacity, Argent would become the third-largest LNG export facility in Louisiana.
