Argent LNG Signs Agreement with Naftogaz to Supply Ukraine
Argent LNG has signed an agreement to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine's state-owned Naftogaz Group as part of its proposed Lafourche Parish export terminal. The project will have a production capacity of up to 25 million metric tons annually, matching the planned output of Argent's facility at Port Fourchon.
The agreement follows previous supply deals with Turkey and Bangladesh, which will serve European and Asian markets. Naftogaz will act as a regional intermediary, routing LNG from Louisiana to Ukraine's vast underground storage network for distribution to democratic allies in the region.
Argent has committed to hiring in-state manufacturers and shipbuilders whenever possible, aligning with its 'Louisiana First' procurement strategy. The company plans to use prefabricated modular units, manufactured offsite before being shipped to Port Fourchon on heavy-lift vessels, reducing construction time by 30%.
Construction work on Phase 1 of the $20-billion export facility is expected to begin as early as 2026 with first production anticipated by early 2030. Argent LNG chief executive Jonathan Bass noted that 'Port Fourchon exists to put reliable American supply behind allies who need it, not as a one-off cargo, but as the kind of long-term infrastructure relationship that actually changes a country's strategic position.'
The Louisiana Legislature unanimously passed a concurrent resolution in May supporting the export of Louisiana gas to democratic global allies rather than geopolitical adversaries. This move is seen as a testament to the dedication and expertise of Louisiana's world-class contractors.
