Argentina Corn Exports Set for Record Amid Ukraine War Disruptions
Argentina's corn exports are set for a record high in August and September, driven by a bumper harvest and strong international demand. The country's 2025/26 harvest is estimated at 71.7 million tons, nearly 20% above the previous record.
Gustavo Idigoras, head of the CIARA-CEC grains exporters and crushers chamber, said Argentine corn is 'very competitive in price and in volume'.
The main driver of demand for Argentine corn is North African countries, which are typically buyers of Ukrainian grain. Morocco has led the surge with imports increasing 133% year-on-year to 1.55 million tons, followed by Egypt and Algeria.
Ukraine's ability to export grain through the Black Sea ports has been severely disrupted due to war in the region, while Europe's heat wave has also reduced corn yields. This has created a bottleneck for Ukrainian shipments.
