Argentina LNG Project Sparks Urban and Demographic Challenges
The Argentina LNG project aims to convert unconventional gas from the Vaca Muerta field into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export, positioning Argentina as a global energy supplier.
The $51 billion investment is led by state-owned oil company YPF in partnership with Italy's Eni and the UAE's XRG, with projected start of operations between 2027 and 2028.
Punta Colorada, a town near the Gulf of San Matías in Río Negro province, will serve as the epicenter for the project. However, it has only 4 residents, making urban planning essential to adapt to the new reality.
