Argentina Locks in $900M for Pipeline to Feed First Large-Scale LNG Exports
Argentina has secured $900 million in financing for its ambitious project to become a global natural gas exporter. The funding, provided by a consortium of banks including Citi, J.P. Morgan, and Santander, will be used to build a 472-kilometer pipeline from the Vaca Muerta shale formation to the Atlantic coast.
The pipeline, which will carry gas from one of the world's largest unconventional gas reserves, is expected to cost around $1.3 billion in total, with the remaining $400 million to be funded by shareholders.
Construction on the pipeline is set to start in August 2026 and finish by mid-2028, with a capacity to transport 27 million cubic meters of gas per day.
The project marks a major milestone for Argentina's long-delayed ambition to become a global natural gas exporter. The country plans to use the pipeline to supply two floating liquefied natural gas vessels, which will produce a combined 6 million metric tons of LNG per year.
