Argentina Surpasses Oil Production Record in May
Argentina's oil production broke its monthly record in May, reaching 904,000 barrels per day (bpd), with Vaca Muerta accounting for 69% of the volumes. This growth is significant, as shale production from Vaca Muerta has established Argentina as one of Latin America's fastest-growing oil producers.
The success of Vaca Muerta can be attributed to efforts to develop its vast resources and build infrastructure needed to transport growing production. State-owned energy company YPF forecasts that Argentina will surpass 1.5 million bpd from 2031 onwards, as new oil fields come online.
Several companies have pledged billions to develop Vaca Muerta's resources, with Pluspetrol proposing $12 billion in investments and YPF pledging another $25 billion for the LLL Oil project. These investments are expected to support infrastructure construction and exports, driving economic growth in Argentina.
