Argentina's far-right President Javier Milei has escalated tensions over the Falkland Islands by threatening oil firms with sanctions if they pursue drilling activities in the disputed territory.

Milei made the announcement during a national address, where he cited a statement from US President Donald Trump on re-evaluating the US position on the islands due to the UK's lack of support for the war on Iran.

The Argentine president claimed that the 'winds of change' favor Argentina's claim to the islands, which they refer to as Las Malvinas.

Milei also stated that the UK is on a 'path of decline' due to immigration, while Argentina's future is 'flourishing and will prevail.'
