Argentina's LNG Export Capacity Set to Surge with SESA and Argentina LNG Projects
Argentina is poised to become one of the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporters, thanks to several major projects in development. The Southern Energy Project (SESA) and Argentina LNG could add more than 20 million tons per annum (MTPA) of export capacity if their planned capacity is fully developed.
The San Matias Pipeline (SMP), a key project under the SESA initiative, has secured a $900 million loan to finance its construction. The pipeline will extend for 473 kilometers from Tratayen, Neuquen, to San Antonio Oeste on the coast of Rio Negro and supply SESA's two liquification plants.
The SMP is expected to begin operations in 2027 and 2028, respectively, with combined capacity of 6 MTPA. The projects are expected to generate billions in exports for Argentina, making it a significant player in the global LNG market.
