Argentina's Vaca Muerta Formation Boasts Decade-Long Oil and Gas Potential
Vaca Muerta, an Argentine oil and gas formation, has significant potential for sustained development over the next decade. According to Enverus Intelligence Research (EIR), the area holds approximately 8.7 billion barrels of economically competitive oil and around 109 trillion cubic feet of gas.
The oil production in Vaca Muerta is expected to remain stable at an estimated final recovery rate of 110 barrels per foot, with some areas experiencing a decline in productivity due to infrastructure challenges.
Gas production, however, shows high productivity, with rates reaching up to 2.3 Bcf per 1,000 feet, surpassing those found in North American gas fields used as benchmarks.
The main challenge for Vaca Muerta is accessing international markets, particularly for gas, which requires new infrastructure and transportation capacity to monetize its resources.
