Arla Invests €8.3M in Electric Heating at Danish Facility
Arla Foods Ingredients is making a significant investment in reducing natural gas consumption and carbon emissions at its Danmark Protein facility in Videbaek, Denmark. The company has invested €8.3 million (US$9.6 million) in a new electric heating system for Production Tower 4, which will enable the tower to operate using either steam or electricity.
The project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,500 metric tons and save natural gas equivalent to the heating demand of over 900 households. The company estimates that once implemented, the new system will meet the tower's heating requirements for around 23% of its operating time.
Arla Foods Ingredients' director of the Danmark Protein plant, Mogens Bøgh Pedersen, noted that the project combines operational reliability, supply security, and emissions reduction. The company views this investment as evidence of the potential to expand electrification across its manufacturing operations.
