Japan and South Korea are bracing for petrol rationing as the ongoing war between Iran threatens to disrupt global oil shipments.

The conflict has severely limited traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane that carries nearly one-fifth of the world's oil supply.

Most of this oil is bound for Asia, making Japan and South Korea particularly vulnerable to a prolonged disruption in oil supplies.

Japan imports almost all its oil from Gulf producers, while South Korea faces a similar dependency on Middle Eastern crude.

If tanker traffic through the strait remains restricted, analysts warn that both nations could face fuel shortages as deliveries slow and global markets scramble for alternative sources.
